When Cleaning Matters, Think PDIR

HOW WOULD YOU CLEAN WITH THE KÄRCHER PDIR PROCESS?

The Kärcher PDIR process has been created through years of industry research into how dirt enters a building and provides insight into best practices for its management.

.Cleaning may not be top of everyone’s agenda, but when it comes to business, it’s important to get it right.

Understanding how soils are brought in and implementing the correct routines and procedures will undoubtedly save you time, money and resources. With a solid cleaning strategy in place, you can greatly reduce the spread of germs and the risk of slips and trips, which are the most common cause of injury in the workplace.

So what are the different types of cleaning and what do they mean to your business?

The cleaning process can be broken down into four key areas - Preventative, Daily, Interim and Restorative. All of these are necessary, but which most deserves your focus and attention? In this guide we’ll talk about these different types of cleaning and why it should be high up on your agenda.

PDIR

WHAT IS PDIR?

PDIR is a process that has been developed to help you rethink your cleaning programme, and is a guideline to help you save money while being more environmentally friendly at the same time. PDIR is an acronym that represents the four different cleaning functions: Preventative, Daily, Interim and Restorative. The outcome of this process is to help you focus on the most effective and cost-efficient cleaning functions to maximise the return on investment. Implementing this programme in your facility will improve its appearance and extend the life of your flooring. PDIR is a more strategic approach to cleaning that focuses your efforts on the frontline to keep your facility clean. By eliminating the over-cleaning that happens in some facilities and focusing those wasted efforts on smarter, more productive tasks, you will save time, money, labour and detergent.

A BETTER WAY TO CLEAN

Pollution and impurities are constantly trying to spoil your clean and healthy indoor environment. The objective of the PDIR programme is to reduce these impurities in the most efficient and environmentally friendly way. Preventing soils from entering your building is the most cost-effective, yet often overlooked cleaning function. By taking an outside-in approach, you can start to identify where soils come from, such as car parks, paths and outside reception areas. Preventive cleaning of these areas will reduce the amount of cleaning required within the property, providing you with more resource and reducing the amount of detergent used.  The PDIR process utilises best practices and provides a cleaning solution whereby the correct equipment and methods are used for the job. This reduces cleaning costs and is better for the environment too.

CLEANING
SMARTER

One of the key values of the PDIR programme is to dedicate more focus on the cost-effective preventative, daily and interim cleaning functions to limit the amount of time spent on the costly restorative stage. Wear and tear means restorative cleaning will always be necessary, however PDIR simply reduces the frequency at which restorative cleaning is required.

Preventative

Preventative cleaning helps to stop soil from entering your property. This can be done inexpensively and with the correct equipment will keep most of the soil outside.

Process: For preventative maintenance sweep and pressure wash your paths and entrances. Studies have shown that implementing this process can reduce the amount of soil tracked into your facility by 66%.

Equipment: Use sweepers, pressure washers plus exterior and interior matting. Preventative maintenance is very green and it requires little to no chemical.

Daily

Daily cleaning quickly removes the soils that have entered your property and minimise’ the damage to your hard and soft flooring. By removing soils on a daily basis, you extend the life of your floors.

Process: Daily maintenance is performed by vacuuming and carpet maintenance plus cleaning spills, scrubbing and steam cleaning.

Equipment: Use upright vacuum cleaners, carpet spray extraction, scrubber driers and steam cleaners.

No chemicals are needed for vacuuming and low levels of carpet detergent are required for effective spray extraction, for scrubber driers using low levels of detergent and then water will neutralise the floor.

Interim

Interim cleaning maintains a clean, consistent appearance and use less water and detergent. A programme that is focused on interim maintenance reduces the frequency at which restorative work is required.

Process: Use encapsulation cleaning and spray extraction to restore your carpets to a “like new” appearance and be ready to release the room in 30 minutes. For hard floors, deep cleaning using a scrubber drier is the first step, followed by polishing of your floors to reduce the amount of cleaning time and detergent required.

Equipment: Use an interim carpet maintenance machine such as the iCapsol carpet cleaner or a scrubber drier and a polishing machine to quickly restore the shine to a floor.

Restorative

There will come a time when you will need to execute restorative work due to wear and tear over the years. Only restorative cleaning will bring your floors back to a true “like new” state.

Process: For soft floors, utilise a pre-spray and a deep carpet extraction. To deep clean your hard floors, completely strip your floors and then re-coat them.

The goal of preventative maintenance is to stop soil from entering your facility. It is cheaper and easier to do so in this stage of the process. If we could keep all soil outdoors, the level of indoor cleaning required would be vastly reduced.
